Lexington man pleads not guilty to killing friend, burning the body

The Lexington man accused of killing a friend and setting the victim's body on fire last year pleaded not guilty Thursday to murder and other charges in Fayette Circuit Court.

Sidney Lane Williams Jr., 36, also is charged with tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse. Police have said he shot Victor Lamont Martin, 39, in the head and burned Martin's body on Russell Cave Road last August.

Martin and Williams had worked together at Aichi Forge in Georgetown. Police have said that Williams told them he shot Martin after the two argued at Williams' home. Martin was using drugs at the house after Williams asked him not to, he said.

Williams also was indicted last month on a persistent felony offender charge because of two convictions on drug, assault and firearms charges.
