A 36-year-old Lexington man was found unresponsive Thursday in a parking garage on the University of Kentucky campus and was later pronounced dead at the University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital.

Jonathan McIntyre, who was pronounced dead at 8:51 a.m., died of blunt-force trauma to the head, according to the Fayette County coroner's office. The manner of death was pending.

"It appears that he fell from the fifth level of the parking structure down to the ground level," UK Police Chief Joe Monroe said. "There doesn't seem to be any evidence of foul play whatsoever."

Another UK employee found McIntyre, who worked for the Kentucky Geological Survey, in the bottom level of the five-story garage's stairwell about 8:20 a.m. and notified authorities, Monroe said.

"It appears that he was probably on his way to work," Monroe said.

He said security cameras in the garage, at 301 Hilltop Avenue, show that McIntyre entered the parking structure shortly after 8 a.m.

There are no cameras in the stairwell where McIntyre was found, he said.

McIntyre was taken to UK Hospital by ambulance.

McIntyre, a geologist, had worked at UK since November 2005, UK spokeswoman Kathy Johnson said. He managed the network of seismic instruments for the Kentucky Seismic and Strong Motion Network, she said.
