Two killed in fiery early-morning crash in Greenup

June 30, 2011

Two people were killed early Wednesday on Ky. 67 in Greenup County when two semi-trailers collided.

Kentucky State Police said in a release that Wesley A. Walker, 48, of Olive Hill was driving a 2005 Freightliner tractor northbound on Ky. 67, also called Industrial Parkway, near U.S. 23 at 1 a.m.

The release said he lost control of the rig, and it overturned onto its side and skidded, colliding head-on into a second tractor-trailer, loaded with several things, including soft drinks.

Both rigs caught fire, and both drivers were killed.

Walker's rig, owned by J&W Recycling in Olive Hill, was hauling compacted salvaged cars, according to the release.

No details were immediately available on the second vehicle or its driver.

Ky. 67 remained closed in the early afternoon Wednesday as crews continued to clean up debris.
