Just last week, we saw about 4,000 of you run the Bluegrass 10K through downtown Lexington.
We've seen thousands of you turn out for events like Second Sunday, Run the Bluegrass, the Midsummer Night's Run, and Bike Lexington, to name a few.
We've also seen you on the Legacy Trail, at the Y, swimming in city pools and walking through The Arboretum.
Lazy Town? We think not.
Men's Health magazine says Lexington is the most sedentary city in America. Today, we're asking you to help us tell a different story. Don't take this challenge sitting down.
As part of a project we're calling Stand Up, Lexington, we want you to send us your story about how you stay active and fit — whether it's running five miles a day, biking through the Bluegrass countryside, dancing to music with your toddler or taking a walk in the woods.
We'll share the best stories in the Herald-Leader and on Kentucky.com. If we get enough stories, we'll compile them and send them to Men's Health — and maybe even to Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert, who can display them on air next to the "Golden Reacher-Grabber Award" he gave to Lexington a few weeks back.
Of course, we know that fitness and health are serious issues for the city and the state. So we'll also be running stories with advice on ways to get fit and stay fit, as well as profiles and stories about people in our community who have found innovative ways to help others — and themselves — get fit.
That starts Wednesday, on the front of Life + Neighbors, with a list of activities that can help you get fit this summer.
