A former Blue Grass Airport official has asked for shock probation after being sent to jail for violating the terms of his probation.

John Phillip Slone, 53, of Versailles, the Lexington airport's former director of planning and development, asked Fayette Circuit Judge Pamela Goodwine to grant him shock probation last week. If Slone's request is approved, he would be released from jail.

On June 24, Goodwine ordered Slone to serve 12 months in jail after he violated the terms of his conditional discharge by being arrested for driving under the influence in Bartholomew County, Ind., in November. He pleaded guilty to the DUI charge in May.

In June 2010, Goodwine sentenced Slone to 12 months in jail after he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft by deception, a misdemeanor, for his role in an airport spending scandal. Goodwine conditionally discharged that sentence for two years. Under a conditional discharge, a person avoids jail time if he stays out of trouble with the law.

Slone began working as an aviation project director for R.W. Armstrong in Indiana after he was forced out of his job at the airport because of the spending scandal.
