Rick Corman, founder of R.J. Corman Railroad Group in Nicholasville, is improving after breaking two ribs and then suffering complications from those injuries earlier this week, a company spokesman said.

Corman, 55, was listed in serious condition Friday at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, a hospital spokesman said.

University of Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari brought attention to the situation Friday when he tweeted: "Lit a candle 4 Rick Corman after he took a little spill. Saw him in the hospital & of course he said he's ok. A few BBN (Big Blue Nation) prayers always helps."

Noel Rush, vice president of strategic planning and development for R.J. Corman Railroad Group, said Corman broke two ribs early Wednesday when he fell while trying to get a cramp out of his leg.

Corman went to the hospital to be X-rayed and treated, and later Wednesday went home to Nicholasville to rest. But Rush said complications arose with the chemotherapy Corman takes for multiple myeloma, a bone-marrow cancer that Corman has lived with for 10 years.

Corman went back to the hospital and by Thursday morning his condition had stabilized, Rush said. Corman's condition continues to improve, Rush said.

"As much as we're grateful for people's thoughts and prayers," Corman is not in a position to take visitors at the moment, Rush said.
