Bowling Green won the battle 35-14, but Henry Clay showed some fight in the Fayette County iHigh Football Frenzy at Lafayette on Friday night.

Bowling Green, No. 1 in Class 5A, looked like it was on its way to a lopsided victory when it took a 28-0 lead early in the second half.

And Henry Clay looked like it might be on its way to an encore of last week's embarrassing 56-6 loss to John Hardin, No. 2 in 5A.

But the Devils didn't let that happen.

After Bowling Green botched a punt attempt at its own 17, Henry Clay capitalized on the next snap. Sammy Carter hit Evander Harris with a 17-yard touchdown pass.

A few minutes later, Henry Clay's Davion Jackson picked up a Purples' fumble and returned it 45 yards. That led to Anthony "Bam" Lindsey's 1-yard TD that sliced Bowling Green's lead in half (28-14).

The visitors answered with Hunter Neveras' fourth rushing TD of the night to quiet the Devils' comeback.

Bowling Green senior quarterback Scooter Hollis sparked the offense. He completed 19 of 24 passes for 281 yards and a TD.

Nacarius Fant was his prime target. He had 10 catches for 156 yards and a TD.

Neveras, who was recovering from an injury and missed the Purples' opening win over Allen County-Scottsville, made an impact in his season debut by rushing for 98 yards and four scores.

Henry Clay's inexperience in the offensive backfield showed against a veteran Bowling Green defense. The Devils managed only 89 yards.

Bowling Green thoroughly dominated the first half. It had 300 yards to Henry Clay's 35 and led 21-0.

The Purples finished with 550 yards.
