The Savannah Sand Gnats took advantage of two ninth-inning errors to score a run and edge the Lexington Legends 6-5 Thursday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Juan Carlos Gamboa, who had joined Savannah earlier in the day after a promotion from Kingsport of the Appalachian League, singled to lead off the top of the ninth.

A throwing error by pitcher Murilo Gouvea on a pickoff attempt allowed Gamboa to reach second.

Alonzo Harris sacrificed Gamboa to third, and he scored when Wilfredo Tovar's grounder got by Mike Kvasnicka for an error.

The Legends got a runner to second in the bottom of the ninth on Ben Heath's single and a wild pitch, but they could not score.

Savannah's Adam Kolarek (7-0), who worked the seventh and eighth innings, got the win. Gouvea (1-3), who pitched four innings and gave up two unearned runs, took the loss.

Domingo Santana had two hits and three RBI to lead the Legends. Emilio King and Ben Orloff also knocked in runs for Lexington.
