A Letcher County man has been charged with first-degree robbery after unsuccessfully trying to steal money from a convenience store, state police said.

Roger Alan Miles, 19, of Isom, was arrested not long after the robbery attempt on Thursday.

Miles allegedly went to Maggard's Grocery Store in the Little Colley area of Letcher County armed with a small pistol and demanded money from the cash register.

However, he fled on foot when an employee confronted him, state police said in a news release.

Police searched the area and found Miles.
