Question: How do you feel about being the latest marquee point guard for John Calipari, following Brandon Knight, John Wall, Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose?
Answer: I try to look at it as a motivator. I want to be the next good point guard to come out of here, so I'm going to come in here and work as hard as I can and try to make it happen.
Q: Does following those players seem like a daunting task?
A: Those are the best. I feel Coach Cal considers me one of those. Like, he knows I have the talent to do that. All I have to do is come in here and work hard.
Q: Does having to follow your brother, Jeff Teague (of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks), give you experience in handling the inevitable comparisons?
A: It makes me work harder, I feel. I want to be better than my brother. I always want to prove to him I'm better than him. It made me hungrier on the basketball court.
Q: As you grew up, how much did you hear comparisons to your brother?
A: I heard that as soon as I got to middle school. I heard that all the way through high school. Till I made a name for myself, "Jeff Teague was better." "That's his brother, so watch his game."
Q: What did you think about that?
A: (I thought) I've got a name. My name is Marquis Teague. My name is not Jeff Teague's little brother. It helped me, though. A lot of people came to watch me, to see what I could do.
Q: How would you compare your game to Knight's and Wall's?
A: I'm a different player from both of them. Brandon is more of an outside shooter. He's got a great jump shot. He has a lot of speed also. I feel I'm quicker. I get to the basket a lot more. I have good ball-handling (skills), and I'm still working on my outside shot.
