Marquis Teague says he's not worried about living up to past UK point guards. He's been dealing with comparisons to his brother, an Atlanta Hawks guard, ever since middle school. CHARLES BERTRAM

  • About Teague: Another of Kentucky's top-10 recruits in the class of 2011, he chose the Cats over Louisville after an intense recruiting battle. Teague chose UK for the opportunity to be coached by John Calipari, who has a history of helping his point guards quickly attain their NBA dreams. Teague has drawn comparisons to NBA All-Star Chris Paul for his ability to handle the ball, take contact and explosively burst to the basket.

Question: How do you feel about being the latest marquee point guard for John Calipari, following Brandon Knight, John Wall, Tyreke Evans and Derrick Rose?

Answer: I try to look at it as a motivator. I want to be the next good point guard to come out of here, so I'm going to come in here and work as hard as I can and try to make it happen.

Q: Does following those players seem like a daunting task?

A: Those are the best. I feel Coach Cal considers me one of those. Like, he knows I have the talent to do that. All I have to do is come in here and work hard.

Q: Does having to follow your brother, Jeff Teague (of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks), give you experience in handling the inevitable comparisons?

A: It makes me work harder, I feel. I want to be better than my brother. I always want to prove to him I'm better than him. It made me hungrier on the basketball court.

Q: As you grew up, how much did you hear comparisons to your brother?

A: I heard that as soon as I got to middle school. I heard that all the way through high school. Till I made a name for myself, "Jeff Teague was better." "That's his brother, so watch his game."

Q: What did you think about that?

A: (I thought) I've got a name. My name is Marquis Teague. My name is not Jeff Teague's little brother. It helped me, though. A lot of people came to watch me, to see what I could do.

Q: How would you compare your game to Knight's and Wall's?

A: I'm a different player from both of them. Brandon is more of an outside shooter. He's got a great jump shot. He has a lot of speed also. I feel I'm quicker. I get to the basket a lot more. I have good ball-handling (skills), and I'm still working on my outside shot.
