Adoption center opens at Hamburg PetSmart

October 19, 2011

The Lexington Humane Society, the largest animal adoption agency in Central Kentucky, and non-profit PetSmart Charities, the largest funder of companion animal-welfare efforts in North America, have teamed with support from PetSmart to open a pet-adoption center in the Hamburg PetSmart, 1945 Pavilion Way.

A crowd, including Mayor Jim Gray, Urban County Council member Kevin Stinnett and 6th Congressional District director Diane Hancock, gathered for the grand opening and ribbon cutting Oct. 1. Gov. Steve Beshear proclaimed the day "Lexington Humane Society Adopt Love Day." The new adoption center is only the seventh of its kind in the United State and is expected to help the Lexington Humane Society find homes for an additional 500 animals a year. During the grand opening week, the Lexington Humane Society saw more than 100 animals adopted.
