A student who brought a gun to the Eastside Technical Center on Wednesday afternoon had the gun on campus at Bryan Station High School earlier that day, Fayette County public schools officials said Thursday afternoon.

Bryan Station parents were receiving phone calls informing them of the fact, school district spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said.

Most students who attend Eastside go, or are bused to, the technical center from their home high schools.

Deffendall said district law enforcement officials confirmed that the student involved in Wednesday's incident had the gun in his backpack on the Bryan Station campus before going to Eastside, where authorities found out about the weapon.

Deffendall said police think the incident was not related to any other events at Bryan Station.

Officers at Eastside recovered the unloaded gun, and a loaded ammunition magazine, from the student's backpack after receiving a tip. The student was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon on school property.
