Unemployment rates fell in 72 of Kentucky's 120 counties in September compared to September 2010, according to data released Thursday by the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. Rates increased in 43 counties, and they remained the same in five.

Woodford County had the lowest jobless rate in the state: 7.2 percent. It was followed by Fayette, 7.7 percent; Larue, 7.8 percent; Caldwell, Ohio, Warren and Webster, 7.9 percent each; Calloway, 8 percent; and Daviess, Madison, Oldham and Shelby, 8.1 percent each.

Fulton County had the state's highest unemployment rate at 17.3 percent. It was followed by Jackson, 16.5 percent; Magoffin, 16 percent; McCreary, 14.8 percent; Clay, 14.7 percent; Menifee, 14.4 percent; Bell, 14.1 percent; Meade, 13.9 percent; Lewis, 13.6 percent; and Lee, 13.3 percent.
