The Kentucky women's basketball team opens year five of the Matthew Mitchell era when it plays host Sunday to Division II foe Coker College in the Cats' only exhibition game of the season.
The 2 p.m. game at Memorial Coliseum will serve as a homecoming of sorts for former Kentucky standout Jenny Pfeiffer Finora, head coach of the Coker Cobras. Finora, who played four seasons at UK from 2002 to 2007, is in her second season at Coker. Finora, who went 5-21 in her debut last season, is the all-time leader at Kentucky in career free-throw percentage (.861) and ranks third all-time in three-point field goals made (162).
Coker, a school in Hartsville, S.C., with about 700 undergraduates, returns one senior and has 10 new players, including four transfers and six freshmen.
The Wildcats have 10 letter winners, including four starters from last year's 25-9 team, and redshirt senior guard Amber Smith, who started in all 36 games during UK's run to the Elite Eight in 2010. She sat out last season after tearing her left anterior cruciate ligament.
Kentucky will open its 38th season Friday with a 7 p.m. game at Morehead State. Its home opener is 11 a.m. Nov. 15 against Jacksonville State at Memorial Coliseum.
