November 7, 2011

Doron Lamb

Age: 20

Height, weight: 6-4, 210

Position: Guard

Class: Sophomore

Hometown: Queens, N.Y.

High school: Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va.

About Lamb: Lamb was Kentucky's top three-point marksman (48.6 percent) and its third-leading scorer (12.3 points per game) last season, and Coach John Calipari has said the sophomore has only scratched the surface of his abilities: "If he's in great condition and he has a sense of urgency, he's our best basketball player," Calipari said. Lamb played in all 38 of Kentucky's games last season, starting 14.

Lamb on why he's such a good shooter: "Putting up a lot of shots (and) having a lot of confidence in my shot. My shot is way better this year. I can shoot way farther."

Coach Cal on Lamb needing a greater sense of urgency: "Do you want to be the best? You have the ability to be the best. Go do it. Be the first in the gym. Be the last in the gym. Are you kicking the weights or are you miserable in the weight room?"

Darius Miller

Age: 21

Height, weight: 6-8, 225

Position: Guard

Class: Senior

Hometown: Maysville

High school: Mason County

About Miller: He was UK's hottest player down the stretch last season, averaging 15.9 points in the final 10 regular-season games, then earning MVP honors in the Southeastern Conference Tournament. The versatile veteran also became a proficient three-point shooter (44.3 percent). He spent part of his summer representing the United States in the World University Games in China.

Miller on what his senior season means to him: "It means a lot to me, and I want it to be a very successful season. I want my senior season to be remembered for a long time."

Coach Cal on Miller's better level of fitness: "Darius's weight is down. His body fat is down. He's running better. He's moving better. He really looks good. ... He's not been consistent with it, but I think he knows this is his senior year."

Terrence Jones

Age: 19

Height, weight: 6-9, 252

Position: Forward

Class: Sophomore

Hometown: Portland, Ore.

High school: Jefferson

About Jones: He was the second-leading scorer (15.7 ppg) and leading rebounder (8.8) on Kentucky's 2010-11 Final Four team. Projected by some as an NBA lottery pick, Jones decided to remain at UK "to try to win a national championship" and to get more mature. "College was just too fun, and I wasn't ready to leave," he added, saying his goal is to be a top-three pick in the 2012 draft.

Jones on the loss to UConn in the 2011 Final Four: "It was just a hurtful thing. I had won three state championships in a row. I wasn't used to having that losing feeling. I think about it every time I step on the court and put my Kentucky gear on."

Coach Cal on Jones needing to feel superior to the freshmen: "'None of you are better than me,' and he's practicing that way. He's trying to say, 'Look, I went through this. I just went to a Final Four. I got 15 rebounds in the Final Four game.'"
