A Magoffin County man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for buying votes in the 2010 general election, U.S. Attorney Kerry Harvey said Wednesday in a news release.

Randall E. Salyer, 55, was convicted on two counts of vote-buying.

Evidence showed that he paid two people $100 each to buy their absentee ballots, the news release said.

Vote-buyers buy blank absentee ballots and then fill them out for their preferred candidates.

Salyer will have to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence.
