Two people died in a traffic accident in Letcher County Saturday, police said.

Jimmy Woods Jr., 19, of Burdine, was operating a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt on KY 805, when he lost control and went off the east bound shoulder of the roadway, according to Kentucky State Police at Hazard.

The car collided with a tree, and then came to rest in a creek. Woods, along with a passenger, Whitney Griffin,22, of McRoberts, were pronounced dead at the scene. No seat belts were in use, police said.
