NBA notes: Hayes doesn't pass test on heart

Ex-cat will need further evaluation

December 16, 2011

A recent heart exam on new Sacramento Kings big man Chuck Hayes shows an abnormality that will require further testing.

The Kings announced Thursday night that a stress echocardiogram revealed the abnormality. The former Kentucky Wildcat signed a $21.3 million, four-year deal with the Kings last week.

Hayes averaged 3.4 points and 4.7 rebounds in 17 minutes per game in six seasons with the Houston Rockets. He attended media day earlier Thursday and appeared fine.

Jazz, Josh Howard agree

Utah has reached a deal with free-agent Josh Howard pending the outcome of a successful physical.

The Jazz made adding an athletic shooter their top priority in free agency after re-signing backup point guard Earl Watson last week.

The 6-7 Howard is entering his ninth season.

Crawford heads to Portland

Free-agent guard Jamal Crawford has joined the Trail Blazers. Terms of the two-year deal were not released.

Knicks sign Jordan

The New York Knicks have signed center Jerome Jordan, the second 7-footer they added this off-season.

Jordan was a second-round pick of Milwaukee in 2010, whose rights the Knicks acquired for cash. He then spent parts of the past two seasons playing in Serbia.

Mavericks waive Rautins

The Mavericks have waived guard Andy Rautins five days after he was acquired in a three-team trade that sent Tyson Chandler to the New York Knicks. Rautins was acquired along with a 2012 second-round draft pick from Washington.

Agent: Hornets, Landry agree to deal

Carl Landry's agent says the NBA free-agent power forward has agreed to a one-year, $8.8 million deal with New Orleans.

Mark Bartelstein says his client agreed to only a one-year deal because of the Hornets' "uncertain ownership situation." The team is currently owned by the NBA.

Bobcats land Williams

The Bobcats have signed shooting guard Reggie Williams to a two-year contract, the team confirmed.

He played in 80 games last season for the Warriors and averaged 9.2 points.

T-wolves sign Wells, Lee

The Minnesota Timberwolves have signed veteran Bonzi Wells, who hasn't played in an NBA game since 2008.

Wells signed his contract Thursday, the same day the Timberwolves completed a three-year deal with second-round pick Malcolm Lee.

Magic re-sign Clark

The Magic have announced they have re-signed forward Earl Clark, hoping to add depth it the front court.

The 6-foot-10 former Louisville Cardinal was in the Orlando's practice facility Thursday, but hadn't officially signed his contract.

O'Neal launching new career as NBA analyst

Shaquille O'Neal and Charles Barkley are debating already.

O'Neal, the Hall of Fame-bound center, is joining Barkley, Kenny Smith and Ernie Johnson on the set of TNT's Inside the NBA.

Barkley and O'Neal seemed to disagree on all the NBA's hot stories on Thursday — including the Chris Paul trade and the Dwight Howard saga.
