UK signs JUCO safety; Brown to enroll in Jan.

Junior-college safety Kory Brown has signed with Kentucky and will enroll in January, Coach Joker Phillips has announced.

Brown has spent the last two seasons at East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss. He suffered a knee injury during his freshman year in 2010 and redshirted in 2011.

Brown will participate in spring practice and has three seasons of eligibility at UK.

Brown played four games at safety as a freshman until sustaining the injury. During those four games he made 26 tackles, caused two fumbles and intercepted a pass.

Huskers coach clears starting center for bowl

Nebraska Coach Bo Pelini says center Mike Caputo will play in the Capital One Bowl against South Carolina despite his arrest on suspicion of drunken driving.

The senior from Omaha pleaded guilty on Thursday to reckless driving and was fined $100.

Trojans QB Barkley coming back

Southern California quarterback Matt Barkley has decided to return for his senior season and put off the NFL for another year.

Barkley announced Thursday that while he feels prepared for the NFL, he has unfinished business with the Trojans.

Akron hires Terry Bowden

Akron hired Terry Bowden as its new football coach to turn around a woeful program.

Bowden, who spent six seasons at Auburn, takes over a team than went 2-22 and won just one conference game the past two seasons.
