Fast break: A quick summary of Kentucky's 86-64 win over Lamar

December 29, 2011

TALKING POINTS

After Lamar cut an early UK lead to 12-10, a couple of Darius Miller three-pointers put UK up 20-10. UK fans cheered as Terrence Jones (who had missed two games with a finger injury) got in early. Jones was aggressive if a little rusty at first. Crafty Mike James (29 points) made it interesting for Lamar while Michael Kidd-Gilchrist answered with big plays for UK.

TELLING NUMBERS

Lamar started the game 5-for-25 from the field.

■ 96 seconds: How long it took UK to lead 7-0.

■ 149 seconds: How long it took before Terrence Jones entered the game.

■ Combined, the teams were 24-for-27 at the free-throw line in the first half.

■ Lamar lost to Ohio State and Louisville by 20, to UK by 22.

THUMBS UP

Early in the year, the Cats struggled out of the gate. They have taken care of that issue lately.

■ Kidd-Gilchrist keeps getting better and bringing a complete package.

■ Miller struggled early in the year with his three-point jumper. He's been better of late and was 4-for-6 against Lamar.

THUMBS DOWN

UK has looked soft at times on the boards. Same was true last night. The teams finished tied on the boards but Lamar outrebounded UK most of the game.
