Larry Belknap, a tenured Eastern Kentucky University professor, has voluntarily resigned following his arrest on a marijuana charge, university spokesman Marc Whitt said Friday night.

Earlier Friday, the university said Belknap had been relieved of his teaching responsibilities pending resolution of the case.

Kentucky State Police said officers from its cannabis suppression unit arrested Belknap at his Richmond home and confiscated 8 pounds of marijuana.

Officers received information suggesting that marijuana might be found at the residence, went there, and found it, state police officials said.

Belknap was a tenured professor in EKU's Department of Recreation and Park Administration, according to the university.
