The U.S. Postal Service is hiring for temporary jobs in Lexington, and in Louisville, Paducah and Evansville, Ind. Anyone interested must apply online at USPS.com/employment.

Jobs are available in two categories — mail-processing clerks who earn $14.60 hourly and casual mail handlers who earn $12 hourly. The mail-processing clerk positions are available in all four cities, and the application deadline is Feb. 3. Those interested in the casual mail handler jobs, which are available in Lexington, Louisville and Evansville, must apply by Feb. 10.

The Postal Service has not yet determined the exact number of hires to be made, said spokeswoman Susan Wright.

The hires come as the organization has placed a moratorium for now on closing or consolidating thousands of post offices nationwide. As part of that initiative, the Postal Service is studying the possibility of moving Lexington's mail-processing operations to Louisville or Knoxville.
