Members of a criminal syndicate that brought oxycodone and other prescription drugs from Florida to Kentucky have been indicted in Franklin County, officials announced Thursday.
Some 28 residents of Frankfort, Lawrenceburg and Lexington were indicted as part of Operation Untouchable, a six-month investigation into the pill pipeline, according to a release from the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
Participants in the syndicate traveled to Florida pain clinics to obtain oxycodone, then brought it to Franklin County and illegally sold it at a profit on the street.
Members of the criminal syndicate gave themselves the name "The Untouchables" and even wore T-shirts with a photo and "Untouchables" printed on the front. The law enforcement investigation took its name from that.
The total estimated street value of the drugs brought into Franklin County is about $917,250, the release said.
As of 7 p.m. Thursday, 22 of the 28 had been arrested and charged, Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said.
The sheriff's office was assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service and the Broward County Sheriff's Office and West Palm Beach Police Department in Florida.
