Isaiah Canaan scored 32 points and No. 10 Murray State remained unbeaten with an 81-73 win over Southeast Missouri State on Thursday night.
Jewuan Long added 13 points for host Murray State (22-0, 10-0), which is off to the best start by an Ohio Valley Conference team since Western Kentucky opened 21-0 in 1953-54.
Marcus Brister had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Redhawks (12-10, 7-3).
The lead changed hands three times in the first half and Murray State trailed the Redhawks 39-33 at the break. Murray State took the lead for good less than 10 minutes into the second half.
Southeast Missouri forced the Racers into 14 turnovers, but Murray State outrebounded the Redhawks 43-34.
Eastern Kentucky 47, Eastern Illinois 43: Joshua Jones scored 12 points and Mike Dinunno added 11, two of only three players in the game to score in double figures, as the Colonels sanpped a five-game road losing streak.
Eastern Kentucky (13-11, 6-5 OVC) had its maximum seven-point second half lead cut to 46-43 after a deep three-pointer by Jeremy Granger with eight seconds remaining. Eastern Illinois (9-13, 2-8) fouled and after Jaron Jones split a pair of free throws, Granger missed a potential game-tying three-pointer as time expired.
Granger finished with 12 points for an EIU team that turned the ball over 17 times.
SIU Edwardsville 61, Morehead State 53: Mark Yelovich scored 20 points and Corey Wickware had 19 as Southern Illinois-Edwardsville snapped a six-game losing streak.
Yelovich hit 10 of his 11 shots, helping the host Cougars (6-14, 4-7 OVC) shoot 54 percent from the floor. Kris Davis added 12 points for SIUE.
Morehead State (12-12, 5-5), which had won three straight, got 16 points from Milton Chavis and 10 from Drew Kelly.
Nation men
Duke 75, Virginia Tech 60: Austin Rivers scored 18 points, Ryan Kelly had 15, and the No. 7 Blue Devils used a late first-half run to open a double-digit lead it never relinquished at Virginia Tech.
Kelly had seven points in the 13-2 spurt that helped the Blue Devils (19-3, 6-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) pull away. Rivers hit a three-pointer, and Kelly scored the last five in a 10-0 burst in the second half.
The loss was the seventh in eight games for Virginia Tech (12-10, 1-6).
Syracuse: Center Fab Melo has been reinstated and will play in the Orange's road game against St. John's on Saturday. The 7-foot sophomore sat out the past three games while resolving an academic issue. Melo is averaging 7.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and leads the second-ranked Orange with 60 blocked shots. Syracuse (22-1, 9-1 Big East) went 2-1 without Melo in the lineup, suffering its lone loss to Notre Dame, 67-58, on Jan. 21.
Nation women
South Carolina 64, No. 8 Tennessee 60: Markeshia Grant scored 27 points as South Carolina beat No. 8 Tennessee for the first time since 1980.
The Gamecocks (18-5, 7-3 Southeastern Conference) were down 60-55, when Ashley Bruner hit a layup with 3:18 to play. The basket launched a 9-0 run for South Carolina to close out the game, and Ieasia Walker hit the go-ahead layup with 2:15 to play.
The host Lady Vols had led 57-50 with 5:02 to play in the back-and-forth game, but a layup by Walker and a three-pointer by Grant, one of seven by the senior, fired up the Gamecocks bench. Tennessee remained flat the rest of the way and missed five shots during South Carolina's game-ending run.
Georgia 70, Mississippi State 60: Khaalidah Miller shook off a two-game shooting slump as she and teammate Jasmine Hassell scored 16 points each for the host Lady Dogs.
Miller had played all 40 minutes of the last two games for No. 21 Georgia (17-6, 6-4 SEC) as the Lady Dogs try to compensate for the absence of starting point guard Jasmine James, who missed her fifth straight game Thursday. She was just 3 for 20 from the field in those games, including missing nine of her 10 three-pointers against Tennessee on Sunday.
Against Mississippi State (13-9, 3-6), Miller hit six of 13 shots and twice fueled rallies by Georgia, which ended a two-game losing streak.
Duke 75, Wake Forest 43: Haley Peters had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead four players in double figures as No. 5 Duke beat Wake Forest for the 37th straight time.
Elizabeth Williams added 16 points, Chelsea Gray 12 and Richa Jackson 11 with 11 rebounds in the 27th straight Atlantic Coast Conference win at home for the host Blue Devils (18-3, 9-0).
Maryland 86, Boston College 44: The first half was nearly perfect for the host Terrapins, who used an astonishing 38-3 run in the last 15 minutes of the first half to take a 38-point halftime lead. No. 9 Maryland (19-3, 6-3 ACC) held Boston College (5-17, 0-9) to just four field goals in the half. The Eagles, who played without a senior, missed 27 of 31 shots.
Georgia Tech 75, N.C. State 68 (OT): Sasha Goodlett scored seven of her 21 points in overtime to lead the No. 24 Yellow Jackets (17-6, 7-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who scored the first 11 points in overtime after letting a nine-point lead slip away late in regulation.
Trailing 60-51 with 2:26 left, the visiting Wolfpack (14-9, 4-6) rallied and forced overtime on Bonae Holston's basket from in close with 12 seconds remaining. Marissa Kastanek scored 21 points for the Wolfpack, but sprained her right ankle early in overtime and didn't return.
State women
Northern Kentucky 63, Lewis 61: Ellen Holton scored 14 points and Casse Mogan 13 as the visiting Norse defeated Lewis for a 10th straight time.
NKU improved to 16-4 overall, 9-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis (4-16, 2-10 GLVC) had a chance to win or tie in the closing seconds, but Alexus Grayer missed a three-pointer, and Madeline Kish's follow shot rimmed out as time expired.
