Hundreds of students rally against Ky. higher education cuts

Herald-Leader Staff ReportFebruary 7, 2012

College students from all over the state rallied in Frankfort on Tuesday to protest proposed cuts to higher education spending.

Gov. Steve Beshear's proposed budgets calls for a 6.4 percent reduction in the state's postsecondary education funding. Organizers of the Rally for Higher Education said 300 to 400 students were expected for the rally and various speeches in the Capitol Rotunda.

University of Louisville students took their shoes off to illustrate what would happen with continuing cuts to state universities: a barefoot Kentucky.
