A 22-year-old man from Vero Beach, Fla., was arrested at a Lexington hotel on Monday and charged with 19 counts of identity theft.
Jabari N. Cowart was arrested in a room at La Quinta Inn after police found him in possession of 19 different names, Social Security numbers and birth dates, court documents state.
Police said in a uniform citation that "during our investigation we encountered and charged another subject who was on the way to meet the listed subject (Cowart) with 40 more names, Social Security numbers and dates of birth which were going to be used to file fraudulent tax returns."
It was unclear from court records who the second person was.
In addition to 19 counts of identify theft, Cowart faces one charge of trafficking in stolen identities and one count of possession of marijuana.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Tuesday. He was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center on $50,000 cash bond.
Cowart's next court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 16.
