  • Calipari's McDonald's All-Americans at UK

2012 — Archie Goodwin, Alex Poythress

2011 — Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Marquis Teague, Kyle Wiltjer

2010 — Terrence Jones, Brandon Knight, Doron Lamb

    2009 — DeMarcus Cousins

In the 15 years before John Calipari came to Lexington, the University of Kentucky basketball team brought in 10 McDonald's All-Americans.

Calipari has now matched that number in just four recruiting cycles, and the UK coach is working to exceed it before he closes the lid on this year's class.

Kentucky signees Archie Goodwin and Alex Poythress were named to the McDonald's game Thursday, and five other players sought by Calipari were also on the list.

This year's game will be played in Chicago on March 28, three days before the Final Four.

Goodwin and Poythress bring Calipari's number of McDonald's All-Americans at UK to 10. Tubby Smith had seven McDonald's selections in his 10 years as coach. Rick Pitino had five in eight seasons. Patrick Patterson was the only such player during the two-year tenure of Billy Gillispie.

Only North Carolina (also 10) has had as many participants as Kentucky in the last four games. But the Wildcats have a few more opportunities to add to their total over the next several weeks.

UK recruits Shabazz Muhammad, Anthony Bennett, Devonta Pollard, Amile Jefferson and Tony Parker were all named McDonald's All-Americans on Thursday. They were the only undecided players to make the game, and they all have Kentucky high on their lists of possible schools.

Among those not selected was Nerlens Noel, the shot-blocking phenom who just last week joined the class of 2012. Calipari traveled to New Hampshire on Wednesday to see Noel tally 15 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists in a regular-season game.

The 6-foot-10 center is expected to be on UK's campus next weekend for the game against Mississippi. He plans to visit Syracuse this weekend. Those two schools have long been thought to be the favorites, but Noel is also considering North Carolina, Providence, Florida, Georgetown and UConn.

ESPN and elevated Noel past Muhammad as the No. 1 player in the class after his reclassification. Muhammad remains No. 1 in the PrepStars rankings, and has yet to update its list.

Muhammad said during Thursday's selection show that he would probably make a school decision in April.

"I don't think I'm that close at all," he said. "I really haven't been looking at it."

Muhammad is also considering UCLA, UNLV, Duke, Kansas and Arizona.

Bennett, Pollard, Jefferson and Parker are all five-star power forwards. None of those players has set a specific date for a college announcement.

The regular signing period begins April 11.

Willie Cauley, UK's other signee, was not selected for the McDonald's game and will likely be targeted for the Derby Festival Classic in Louisville on April 6.

One for the UK women

Kentucky signee Janee Thompson will get to play in front of a hometown crowd as a McDonald's All-American.

On Thursday, the point guard was named to the roster for the game that will be played at Chicago's United Center on March 28. Thompson, a 5-foot-7 guard, will be one of five such All-Americans on Mathew Mitchell's UK roster next season.

The others are Bria Goss, Samarie Walker, Jennifer O'Neill and California transfer Denesha Stallworth.

Florida signee Sydney Moss, the only high school player from the state of Kentucky who was nominated for the prestigious team, was not included on the roster.
