A 13-year-old boy remained in critical condition Saturday at University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital after suffering severe head trauma in a saucer sled crash.

The saucer sled on which the boy was riding slammed into a tree Friday night, Harrison County Sheriff Bruce Hampton said.

Hampton would not identify the boy.

The accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. as the boy was riding a saucer sled pulled by an all-terrain vehicle operated by another 13-year-old, Hampton said.

"They were spinning around and around, and he hit a tree head-on," Hampton said.

The incident happened on McDowell Road about 10 miles east of Cynthiana.
