A Campbellsville man accused of killing his great-grandmother with a hammer pleaded not guilty Monday during an arraignment in Taylor District Court.

Jessie James Durham, 20, was charged with murder Sunday and taken to Taylor County Detention Center, Campbellsville police said in a news release.

Campbellsville police found Elizabeth Arinsmier, 78, dead inside her Daisy Drive home on Saturday, Campbellsville police Chief Tim Hazlette said.

Police recovered a hammer from the elderly woman's home, Hazlette said.

Arinsmier's son, Matt Wayne of Cincinnati, called Campbellsville police on Saturday to request a welfare check on his mother, police said in a news release.

Officers went to her Daisy Drive home but did not receive a response. When police got into the house they found her body.

An autopsy performed by the state medical examiner's office in Louisville on Sunday determined that she died of blunt force trauma sustained days earlier, Hazlette said.

"We think this occurred about Wednesday, but it could have been Tuesday evening," Hazlette said. "The son said he had been trying (to contact her) for about three days."

Durham remains in jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Taylor District Judge Amy Anderson scheduled a preliminary hearing in the case for Monday.

At that time, a judge will hear evidence to determine whether there is probable cause to send the case to a grand jury to consider a possible felony indictment.
