High school basketball highlights: Feb. 15

Boys

■ Tranard Chester scored the winning basket with 1:21 left in Lafayette's 58-56 upset of host Henry Clay, ranked eighth in Dave Cantrall's Rating the State.

The Blue Devils led by 14 at halftime, but the Generals trimmed it to one by the end of the third quarter.

Jackson Davis scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, both team-highs, for the Generals. Chester had 10 points and three steals.

Wes Kimball led the Blue Devils with 17 points. Darien Tichenor had six blocked shots.

■ Dillon Avare hit a three-pointer with one second left to give No. 12 Lexington Catholic a come-from-behind 50-48 victory at home against Lincoln County.

The Knights trailed 48-42 with 2:44 to play. Jack Whitman scored with 1:41 left to cut the deficit to four and Bryan Woomer hit a three-pointer with 1:05 to go to get Catholic within a point.

Whitman had team-highs for points (16) and rebounds (six) for the Knights. Craig Floyd had 12 points and four rebounds.

Trenton Edgington hit six three-pointers and finished with 22 points for the Patriots.

■ Three Scott County players reached the 20-point mark in the fourth-ranked Cardinals' 83-67 victory at No. 20 Eastern.Isaiah Ivey led the way with 25 points, and Trenton Gilbert and Tamron Manning scored 21 and 20, respectively.

Manning was 8-for-10 from the free-throw line and had four steals and three rebounds.

■ Spencer Laign scored the first basket in overtime, and Pulaski County went on to defeat visiting West Jessamine 90-85.

Taylor Gover and Kody Johnson did the bulk of the scoring for the Maroons. Gover hit five three-pointers and was 10-for-11 at the free-throw line and ended up with 37 points, seven assists and six rebounds. Johnson had 23 points, five rebounds and four assists.

The Colts' Daulton Peters scored 29 points, and Chase Fain had 11 points, eight assists and seven rebounds. Jeff Ziemann hit four three-pointers and finished with 16 points.

■ No. 25 Clark County outscored host Franklin County by 13 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 64-55 victory.

The Cardinals' Charlie Rogers was 8-for-11 from the field and scored 20 points to go with 11 rebounds. Adam Fatkin had 18 points and 10 rebounds.

Ryan Timmons had 22 points, 12 rebounds and six assists for the Flyers.

■ Top-ranked Louisville Trinity went on an 11-0 run in the third quarter to pull away for a 66-46 victory against visiting Elizabethtown. The Shamrocks (25-3) were led by junior guard James Quick, who had 16 points. Nathan Dieudonne had 12 points and 10 rebounds.

■ Jaysean Paige had 30 points and five rebounds in seventh-ranked Perry County Central's 52-40 win against visiting Breathitt County.

Rowan County's D.J. Townsend scored 19 points and reached the 1,800-point mark for his career in a 90-47 victory against visiting Paintsville. Townsend also had eight assists.

Bethlehem's Brandon Ray hit the second of two free-throw attempts with 1.3 seconds left in a 53-52 win at home against Spencer County. Ray scored 17 for the Eagles (20-4).

Girls

■ Kelli Mitchuson, a senior guard, had 15 points and eight assists in Lexington Christian's 55-46 victory against visiting Monticello. The Lady Eagles also got 21 rebounds from Kristen Jacob.

■ No. 9 Madison Central outscored visiting Tates Creek by 10 in the fourth quarter to rally for a 56-54 victory. Ashton Feldhaus scored 22 for the Lady Indians. Tates Creek's Oney Harrison also had 22.

■ No. 5 Boone County built an 11-point halftime lead and maintained it from there in a 65-54 victory at home against No. 12 Sacred Heart.

The Lady Rebels (25-2) were led by Zuri Hill and Lydia Nash, who both scored 18 points, and Sydney Moss had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists. The Valkyries' DaiJia Ruffin had 21 points and eight rebounds.

■ Kaylin Cecil scored 14 points, and Erin Boley had 13 to help No. 15 Elizabethtown hold off visiting Grayson County 59-55. The Panthers outscored the Lady Cougars 22-9 at the free-throw line.
