Lexington police seized items Wednesday that are thought to have been stolen and then put up for sale at three stores along the Georgetown Road corridor.

Police took two men into custody for questioning, one at Shopper's Choice Market, 649 Georgetown Street, and the other at E-Z Stop Groceries at 833 Georgetown Street. No one had been charged as of Wednesday afternoon.

A search warrant also was served at Dollar Store Plus at a strip shopping center at the corner of Georgetown Road and Lima Drive, Lexington police spokeswoman Sherelle Roberts said.

The seized property appears "to have been taken from various places around Lexington and then they are sold to these stores and these stores, in turn, sell these goods as if it were merchandise that was part of the regular shipment that they get in," Roberts said.

Roberts would not discuss what kind of merchandise was seized during the raids. A television was seen in the back of a Lexington police pickup truck, but it was not clear what the other items were.

"It was significant that we were able to search all these places at once because they are so close in proximity," Roberts said. "We want this to be a concerted effort so that we were able to get in and investigate and gather information unimpeded.

"One of the things that we were looking for are things that were clearly stolen, that clearly belonged at another store, or maybe had marking for another store, another retailer."
