Cabela's outdoors store coming to Louisville

Published: February 16, 2012

Outdoors chain Cabela's announced plans Thursday to open its first Kentucky store in Louisville. Construction on the 88,000-square-foot store will begin in the summer with a planned opening in spring 2013. It will be at the Old Brownsboro Crossing development at the intersections of Interstates 265 and 71.

Among the features of the store will be a boat shop, a gun library and a fudge shop.

"Because we have so many loyal customers in the Bluegrass State, we've had our eye on Kentucky for a long time," Cabela's chief executive Tommy Millner said in a statement.

The store is expected to employ 200 full-time and part-time employees.

The Cabela's store that's closest to Central Kentucky is in Wheeling, W.Va., although the company plans to open a store this year in Charleston, W.Va., and another in Columbus, Ohio, in 2013.
