Kentucky News Review: Louisville chosen America's 'manliest town'

  • GQ magazine voted Louisville the "Manliest Town in America." Okaaay. InsiderLouisville.com reports that in the March issue, GQ lists these attributes of Louisville as "masculine arts: bourbon drinking, horse playing and baseball watching."
  • A couple from Kentucky are engaged on ABC's The Bachelor's Marry Me Monday. Brandon Poynter proposed to Mallory Johnson in a barn at Dixiana Farm.
  • A Lincoln County middle school teacher is going to compete on Country Music Television’s The Singing Bee, reports the Advocate Messenger. Lisa Johnson's appearance date has not yet been set, but she says, "I’d love to find some blue and white cowboy boots. ... I iintend to represent UK all the way, and my school, of course. And my family ... my church." The show combines karaoke singing and trying to remember the lyrics to popular songs.
  • Students at Centre College have come together to create a campus chapter of the national organization Students of Ailing Mothers and Fathers, according to a press release from the college. The group provides peer support for college students grieving the illness or death of a loved one while in school. Patrick Cho, who established Centre’s chapter of AMF, took three semesters off school to help care for his mother who was diagnosed with ALS. She died March 2011. "One of the hardest things for me during my mother’s illness was the feeling of isolation — I didn’t know anyone my own age who could understand what I was going through. Most other resources I found were geared either toward adults or toward younger children; no one was addressing the unique challenges of dealing with death while in college. As soon as I heard about Students of AMF, I knew that I wanted to start a chapter at Centre," said Cho.
