A Danville man who shot at a mail carrier in October 2009 has been sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison.

Juan Warner, 39, also was ordered to pay $3,849 in restitution, according to a news release from office of U.S. Attorney Kerry B. Harvey.

A jury convicted Williams of shooting twice into the vehicle driven by a mail carrier.

Williams told investigators he had been in the yard shooting a pistol at birds before the mail carrier pulled onto his street, according to a court document.

The carrier said Williams asked if there was any mail for him, and the carrier told Williams he'd be back at his house in a few minutes after

making deliveries elsewhere on the street, according to the court record.

As he pulled away, Williams fired two shots into the mail carrier's vehicle.

Williams, who suffered a brain injury in an assault in 2006 and received disability checks, told investigators he "snapped," according to court records.

A jury convicted Williams last September of assaulting a postal worker and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, according to

Harvey's office.

U.S. District Judge Jennifer B. Coffman sentenced him Wednesday.
