Clays Mill Road was reopened Wednesday about 4 p.m., hours after a construction crew ruptured a gas line in the area.

Traffic was closed in both directions of Clays Mill between Cromwell Way and Merrimac Drive, near Man o' War Boulevard, while Columbia Gas crews sealed the leak.

Apparently, a construction crew working on the Clays Mill Road widening project nicked a medium-pressure gas line near Cromwell Way about 1:30 p.m., Columbia Gas spokeswoman Lisa Smith said.

There were apparently no injuries or sick cases associated with the leak. Lexington fire department Battalion Chief Ed Davis said there had been no hospital transports from the area.

The road closure did not severely delay Fayette County public schools' bus services, spokeswoman Lisa Deffendall said.

The gas leak was not the only problem affecting traffic Wednesday. Davis said a fluid leak, likely transmission or hydraulic fluid, closed one lane on the outer loop of Man o' War near Armstrong Mill Road.

Hazardous materials crews were trying to clean up the spill Wednesday afternoon.
