Xerox, already one of Lexington's largest employers, plans to hire more than 300 people in several job categories over the next few months at its call center in Lexington.
Spokesman Chris Gilligan would not identify the client to be served by the new hires, but said that it is "a client with operations in Lexington that is experiencing growth and will experience continued growth through the summer months. ... These are going to be permanent, full-time jobs."
A search of the company's job hiring site also did not identify the company, but said that its products are "fun, cutting edge, constantly changing and are manufactured by the most recognized brand name in the world."
Gilligan would not provide a specific pay rate for the jobs but said that they will be "well above minimum wage ... with the opportunity to improve that based upon performance."
Past hiring at the Lexington Xerox call center, formerly known as ACS before that company was acquired by Xerox in 2010, has paid customer service representatives a starting wage of about $10 an hour. A variety of configurations of shifts will be available, Gilligan said, including nights and weekends.
Although the bulk of hires will be customer service representatives, the company is also seeking to fill positions for quality assurance analysts, technical analysts and service center managers.
Gilligan said hiring will begin immediately and continue through the coming months. Applicants can apply online or at the company office at 101 Yorkshire Boulevard, near Richmond Road and St. Joseph East Hospital.
In addition, Gilligan said, some short-term project work will be available for temporary employees. That is not figured into the 300-person hiring goal.
Gilligan said that those hired will receive health insurance and paid vacation.
Xerox employs 34,000 call agents in 150 call centers around the world. In Kentucky, the company operates call center operations in Lexington, London, Louisville and Northern Kentucky.
In the Lexington area, the Xerox call centers — which include locations on Yorkshire Boulevard and in four other offices — will employ about 3,000 after the latest round of hiring. In Kentucky, Xerox call centers employ about 5,000.
