A grand jury indicted three men Wednesday on murder and other felony charges in the weekend death of a Frankfort man, Franklin County Sheriff Pat Melton said.
Joshua Hammond, 31, and David Bruce II, 44, of Owenton, and James Simons, 35, of Corinth in Grant County each were indicted on charges of murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree assault and tampering with physical evidence, Melton said.
Simons also was indicted on a charge of being a persistent felony offender, Melton said.
A Franklin County grand jury indicted the men in the death of Charles Monroe, 30, whose body was found Sunday on the side of the ramp from U.S. 127 to eastbound Interstate 64.
Hammond is the son of Owen County Sheriff Zemer Hammond. Bruce is the brother of Owen County Jailer Cindy Walker and the son of former Owen County Jailer David Bruce.
Melton said earlier in the week that Monroe's death was the result of a drug deal that went bad.
The three defendants remained in the Franklin County Regional Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bonds for each. They might be arraigned in circuit court as early as next week.
