Man accused of killing Lexington dermatologist hires new attorneys

Published: May 11, 2012

The man accused of shooting and killing a Lexington dermatologist in September has hired new attorneys to represent him.

Marty Lee Roe, 65, was previously being represented by a public defender. At a court hearing Friday, a judge granted his request to bring in private council.

Public Defender Shannon Brooks-English, who had represented Roe since November, said she did not know why exactly he wanted new attorneys on his case. She said she thought he had "pulled together resources" to hire two attorneys from Cincinnati.

"People think they're better off with private council," she said.

Brooks said Adam Bleile and Ashley Witte were representing Roe now. They are from the Bleile, Witte & Lape law firm in Cincinnati.

Roe is accused of killing Dr. Martha Post. He was arrested in Ohio, where he was apparently living out of a camper.

The trial was scheduled for Jan. 22 through 31.
