Three die in Shelby County crash

Three people died in a single-vehicle crash early Saturday on Interstate 64 in Shelby County, Kentucky State Police said.

Gabriel Alva Chacon, 29, and Jamie Alva Chacon, 21, were pronounced dead at the scene, state police said in a release.

Regina K. Alva Chacon, 36, was pronounced dead at the University of Louisville Hospital. A juvenile who was not identified was also taken to U of L Hospital, state police said. They were all from Indianapolis.

The crash involved a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer traveling east on I-64. The driver failed to negotiate the merger of three lanes into two.

The vehicle ran off the shoulder and overturned, ejecting three of the four occupants, state police said.

The crash happened at about 12:45 a.m. at the 29-mile marker of eastbound I-64.
