Herald-Leader Staff ReportMay 24, 2012

An Irvine man faces charges of rape and kidnapping, the Madison County Sheriff's Office said in a release Thursday.

Wayne Scott Cornett, 44, was initially arrested Wednesday afternoon on charges of fourth-degree assault and alcohol intoxication after he and the woman were found on a rural road near the Panola community of eastern Madison County, near the Estill County line.

The victim told Deputy Tyler Cole that she had received cuts and bruises at the hands of Cornett. Later, the victim told Cole that she had been sexually assaulted by Cornett.

She was treated at Pattie A. Clay Regional Medical Center in Richmond, and interviewed by Det. Todd Allen of the sheriff's office. Cornett was then charged with first-degree rape and kidnapping.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. Cornett was lodged in the Madison County jail, where he remains in lieu of a total of $100,000 in bonds.
