A maintenance crew inspecting a boarded-up Lexington apartment complex found skeletal remains there on Tuesday afternoon.

The remains were found at the Pennington Place Apartments, 205 Codell Dr., at about 2 p.m., said Lt. Chris Young of the Lexington police.

He said police believe the person probably had been spending the winter in the vacant apartments and died there. Foul play is not suspected.

Young said the remains had not been identified and the case is being turned over to the coroner's office.

The 20-acre complex has been closed and in disrepair for some time but has been bought by the Barrington Group, a company based in Sarasota, Fla., that specializes in rehabilitating blighted properties.
