California man dies after bicycle accident in Jackson

A 71-year-old Chico, Calif., man who was participating in a cross-country cycling trip died Thursday, several days after he crashed his bicycle in Jackson County, according to the Fayette County coroner's office.

Oliver H. Scheideman Jr. was injured Monday morning on Ky. 3445 at Gray Hawk. No other bicycles or vehicles were involved in the accident, the coroner's office said.

Scheideman was taken to the St. Joseph — London hospital and was later flown to University of Kentucky Chandler Hospital in Lexington, where he died from complications from spinal fractures, the coroner's office said.
