2 men plead not guilty in kidnapping, slaying of Richmond couple

Published: June 13, 2012

Two men pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of kidnapping and murder in the 2010 deaths of a Sonsaray Warford and her boyfriend, Charles Walker.

Matthew Denholm, 27, of Berea, and Daniel Keene, 26, of Richmond were indicted in May and were arraigned Wednesday before Madison Circuit Judge Jean Chenault Logue.

Commonwealth's Attorney David Smith said afterward that he has not decided whether to pursue the death penalty against Denholm and Keene. They are also charged with burglary, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

On or about June 29, 2010, Warford and Walker, both 30, were kidnapped from their Richmond apartment, killed and then buried in a field not far from Richmond. Their bodies were found in March.

The families of Warford and Walker have not been able to bury their loved ones since a Madison district judge granted a motion to preserve the bodies for evidence.

Logue scheduled a pretrial conference for Sept. 19.
