The home of a Clarkson couple was broken into Wednesday while the parents were at the visitation, funeral and burial of their 20-year-old son who was murdered Saturday.

The thieves ransacked the home of Dennis and Cindy Higdon on Higdon Road between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and took four guns, drills, money, jewelry, three laptop computers, a Xbox 360 Kinect and Nintendo Wii, Kentucky State Police said, describing the perpetrators as "lowlifes."

The Higdons' son, Christian, was killed Saturday in Elizabethtown when he tried to escape from a man who chased him, police said. He was pronounced dead in the yard of a house on Magers Drive.

Police said they received a call from a woman who said that Jamie Wagers, 24, hit Higdon in the head with a blunt object and was still chasing him. Wagers has been charged with murder. Police told a newspaper that Higdon had been hit with a hatchet.

The thieves knew the family was attending the funeral when they burglarized the house, police said.
