Van Treese to remain with U of L basketball team

Published: June 26, 2012

Forward Stephan Van Treese, who was given his release from the University of Louisville basketball team on June 6, will instead remain with the team the school announced Tuesday.

"As far as I'm concerned, Stephan should have never thought of going any place other than Bellarmine or Louisville," said U of L Coach Rick Pitino. "He's committed to helping us have another great season."

Van Treese said upon his release, which came right after the Cardinals signed freshman Montrezl Harrell, that he was seeking a school where he could find more playing time.

Van Treese, a 6-foot-8 forward from Indianapolis, played in just three games in 2011-12 because of an injured left knee. As a sophomore in 2010-11, he averaged 2.9 points and 3.5 rebounds while playing in 33 games and starting 12. He has averaged 2.1 points and 2.5 rebounds in 52 career games.
