U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler, D-Versailles, was named co-MVP at the 51st annual CQ Roll Call Congressional baseball game Thursday night at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.

In a game that raised about $250,000 for charities, the Democrats defeated the Republicans 18-5 behind the pitching of Chandler's co-MVP, Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La.

Wearing a uniform from Berea College, Chandler started at shortstop and played all seven innings.

He finished the night with three hits including a bunt, a walk, three stolen bases and four runs batted in.

"On one of the most politically charged days in recent memory, it was great to end the day with a bit of bipartisan fun for a good cause," Chandler said in a news release from his office.

Kentucky was well represented at the game. Besides Chandler, U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Louisville, and U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Bowling Green played in it.

Chandler's office said Chandler threw out Paul on a close play at first base in the first inning.
