Thousands were left without electricity Monday after strong winds blew through Central Kentucky Sunday night.

More than 1,300 Kentucky Utilities customers in Woodford County and 1,056 in Fayette County were without power, according to the company's Web site at 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Power was expected to be restored sometime Monday, said KU spokesman Cliff Feltham.

Elsewhere in KU's service territory, there were 71 outages in Franklin County, 52 in Scott County and 23 in Bourbon County.

At the height of the storms Sunday night, Nicholasville-based Blue Grass Energy had more than 8,000 members without power.

By 9:40 a.m. Monday, that was down to 2,394, the electricity cooperative reported on its Web site.

The counties with the biggest number of outages were Anderson, 375; Franklin, 1,360; Jessamine, 304; and Woodford, 141.

Blue Grass Energy said it had 14 contract crews with about 90 employees working to restore power.
