If you bought fireworks and didn't get to shoot them off because of Lexington's burn ban, all hope (and money) is not lost.

According to Lexington fire department spokesman Ed Davis, city residents can shoot fireworks any day of the year between 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. — as soon as the burn ban is lifted.

Or, you could save them until New Year's Eve, when you can shoot them off at midnight — something you can do only on Dec. 31 and July 3 and 4, according to city ordinance.

Davis acknowledged on the night of the Fourth of July that many people just couldn't seem to hold their fire.

"I'm sitting in my backyard and I hear fireworks going off all around me," he said. "The best we can hope for is to educate people that they are causing fires ... and hope they'll be more careful."
