The Fayette County Coroner's Office identified a Lexington man who was fatally shot early Monday at an apartment complex near Henry Clay High School.
Saul Perez Ruiz, 33, died of multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the coroner's office and a police report. His family had previously identified him as Saul Perez.
The coroner's office ruled Perez's death a homicide. Detectives are investigating the case as a murder, according to the police report.
No arrests had been made Tuesday.
Police said Monday that one or more people apparently forced their way inside Perez's unit at the Dinsmore Apartments on Dinsmore Drive and opened fire. Witnesses said it appeared that Perez returned fire.
The apartment complex backs up to Henry Clay's tennis courts.
A neighbor, Paula Mattingly, said she saw four men get into a sport-utility vehicle and drive away from the apartment after about five to eight shots were fired.
Lexington police were searching for a silver SUV with tinted windows. Anyone with information can call police at (859) 258-3600 or Bluegrass Crimestoppers at (859) 253-2020.
