Kvasnicka homers again, Legends keep rolling with 6-2 victory

July 23, 2012

Red-hot Mike Kvasnicka hit a two-run home run and the Lexington Legends won for the 11th time in 13 games Monday night with a 6-2 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Lexington has rebounded from a dismal start to the second half of the South Atlantic League season to pull within one game of .500.

The Legends scored a run in the second on Justin Gominsky's single. Ben Thomas' home run put Augusta up 2-1 in the top of the fourth.

Kvasnicka's blast in the bottom of the fourth put the Legends ahead for good, 3-2. They added single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings to secure a victory for Luis Ordosgoitti (3-3). The right-handed Venezuelan yielded 10 hits in seven innings, but he walked none and struck out seven.

Murilo Gouvea pitched two shutout innings to earn his third save.

Kvasnicka honored by SAL

Kvasnicka was named the South Atlantic League's player of the week Monday after batting .385 (10-for-26) with four home runs and 15 RBI in six games.

In the Legends' 13-7 win at Greenville on Sunday night, Kvasnicka hit a grand slam and a three-run homer. He homered from each side of the plate in the same game for the second time this season.

"You only get seven RBIs once every couple seasons, so to have a game like that was good," Kvasnicka told MILB.com. "And I'd never hit a grand slam, not in high school or college or pro ball."
